I don't remember seeing a dictionary for iDVD. Unfortunately I can't check because I removed it after installing DVDSP3.
I've also never heard of a server-side dvd creation. Most DVDs are hand-built and there's a lot of money in it.

I checked Fink and there aren't any packages for DVD there. You may have to check out bsd packages or X11.

would iDVD be easier ?

I am looking into this for a client....
Or is there a pre-existing 'server-side' dvd creation solution ?

sounds like something that should allready exist...

Lots of problems (and I'm an optimist) starting with:
There doesn't seem to be a ascript dictionary for DVDSP 3.

Also, you would have to build an index template for the menu. Then you could apply the template to the tracks. DVDSP3 will add buttons automagically for each track.
Then you tell it to Build and Format.
Then outside of DVDSP3, you burn your encoded VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to dvd.

Has anyone used applescript to automate the production of DVDs

Basically,
the user selects tracks out of a playlist
user's playlist gets sent to a Mac OS X server...and is queued
Applescript tells DVDSP to make a DVD from the user's playlist
DVSP compiles the DVD from its pre-existing Mp2 cuts and menu graphics

has this been done or is it possible ?

may thanks
