Accessing network entities

Does anyone know of a way to script interaction with server-based services? I found one osax on macscripter.net <http://osaxen.com/tcpip_scripting_addition.html> that looks like it would be perfect. But, it's commercial and the server it lists for info/download <www.mangotree.com> doesn't exist.

Basically we need something that can write/read to/from a session with our server-based product running in darwin. I think that describes it correctly, but I'm not on the server team and know very little about such things.
