Problem solved thanks to a visit to osaxen.com and subsequently to
http://homepage.mac.com/pcrawford/nyanza_software/products_and_services/prod

A life-saving osax (for me at least) to re-enable the status command for ARA
4.x under OS 9.1 - 9.2. Many thanks to Mr Crawford of Nyanza software for
writing it!

Sorry I did not reply earlier. Not to say that Mr Crawford of Nyanza's software is not a good thing, but wouldn't it be simpler to install the NSS which comes with 9.2, it does not have the "status" bug. (I've used that solution). In 9.1's NSS, "status" hangs.
