Hi All.

1: I must say this discussion has gone away from the Subject!

2: I have to agree with the non-Apple folks around here, that despite whatever you think of AppleScript, it's Not that easy to start using!

a) As mentioned, the online documentation is way-old, and frankly is very frustrating.

b) Any documentation found, is written from developers, to developers. As I recall AS, it was meant to be for the average John Doe, unwrapping his/hers new Mac and start doing Smart stuff with it. Record this, save as script and off you go... a shame that only about 2% of the Scriptable app have a decent Recordable AS feature.

c) "Just look up the features in the Dictionary" He... go figure! Ok Apple guys! Have you EVER showed a Dictionary to your MOM and asked her to (it's not cheating to hand-out the current documentation... 1.3.7?) to script Mail, or Address Book? Even just the Finder?

Now, if the Dictionary had small examples in it... not complete tell blocks, but snippets. Like just show a complete display dialog feature set written out, or how DO you get that song selected in that iTunes playlist with name "my Song". Hey, try to go figure how to select your favorite Radio station in the right bitrate! Without moving a copy to you MyRadio playlist first!!! I gave up! Actually, I tried to record it, but the only thing recorded was action performed on DragThing... go figure...

I'm sorry Cricket (or what your real name is) - AS is NOT as easy as you try to make it - in fact, I would say that PHP is a lot easier! But maybe that's due to the documentation being there, and being up-to-date.

Try find documentation about 'run', or detailed info about the date/time features! I had to use Google, and the first 3 pages pointed to non-Apple.com sites... go figure!

PS: Why does the TRY thing exist? Hey, I'm 'tell'ing the application to do stuff, ain't that trying????
PSS: All those references to <inherit> in the dictionaries, why don't they SHOW what they inherit from??? 'supercalls'... Ahh, ok! What SuperMan...???
