Hello,
So I didn't come up with a solution for recovering the files. I think the information has been lost as it was contained in the applications resource fork. To find another way of storing scripts in the svn repository I tried saving them as an application bundle and a script bundle this worked fine. However after editing the script saved as either an application bundle or script bundle the .svn file was removed from the description.rftd folder meaning saving as bundles in svn is unworkable. Well I guess I be saving all my scripts as .script files from now on.
(A similar problem is also encountered when saving .pages documents - upon editing a pages documents a .svn folder is removed from from a subdirectory of the .pages folder).
Cheers,
Ewan
