I said "...owe an apology."  I did not specifically say "to Emmanuel".

You may realize that Emmanuel, while using English better than many native
speakers, is not a native speaker himself.  So, whether he is able to detect
the common and intentional negative use of the word "proselytizing" is less
important than your use of it. You are aware of that connotation.

Let us hope that he was not as personally offended as I was on his behalf.
