It's up at <http://homepage.mac.com/jcwelch/erage2pdf.zip>
I did this mostly because the Acrobat team's...statements on why they don't
provide Entourage to Acrobat integration has been pissing me off for a while
now. The readme's pretty detailed, and should provide any information you
need.
Yes, I know, my coding style makes the baby jesus cry. But it works for me,
and in this script, Acrobat's open of HTML is so friggin' slow that the
script execution speed is MINOR in comparison.
I'm about to post this up on my site, maybe send it to Doug too, but I'm
worried that there's some odd edge case emails that I haven't been able to
cover yet.
A quick FAQ:
Q: "Do I have to have Entourage? I hate Microsoft."
A: "Yes, and not my farm, not my pig."
Q: "Does this work with Mail/Eudora/Other"
A: "No. Mail's dictionary is borked in Mac OS X 10.4, you don't have enough
money for me to script Eudora, and I don't care about Other" Actually, once
you get past Entourage/Mail/Eudora, most mail applications, if they have a
dictionary at all, don't have one that I could use, and there's a limit to
how much I'm going to torture myself with yet another email application.
(Yes, I know Mailsmith, however, again, I have to deal with too many email
applications as is, and Mailsmith doesn't do IMAP, so I have no reason at
all to use it. If you want to port this over to Mailsmith, please, be my
guest. If SeƱor Briggs wishes to do the same for Eudora, I'll buy him the
cerveza as a thank you. Or pity. When scripting Eudora, the latter does
apply ;-P)
Q: "Do I have to have Acrobat Pro?"
A: "Yes, versions 7 or 8"
Q: "But Acrobat sucks"
A: "The application does a lot more than you think it does, not that the
Acrobat team ever markets the silly thing to the Mac. But the Acrobat team
does tend to view the Mac as a toy, and it shows. I feel your pain, but
that's about it"
Q: "I don't like reading readme files, can't you just tell me what to do?"
A: "And maybe I could type it all up in some sort of file you could then
read...."
Q: "I only have Acrobat 6, will this work with that?"
A: "What is 'I've no earthly idea?'. Seriously, I don't use Acrobat 6
anymore. Considering how little this script does with Acrobat as a thing,
(really, it's just "Open this document"), if Acrobat 6 can deal with HTML,
then it should work. If it doesn't, then I've no good news for you."
