My thanks to kai, and my apologies and thanks to Scott Babcock...
Yes, I was using the result window to view the result. When using
display dialog, all is 'as promised'.
Having only recently moved to OS X full time, I'm afraid my knowledge and
understanding of how to handle Unicode would fit on the head of a pin,
with plenty of room left over. Can't seem to wrap my head around when
and why it should be used.
I guess it's time I bothered myself to learn something more.
