I have been offended by vcards that are not just text. I have reason to believe, but I can't prove, that under some circumstances Apple's Mail.app can send out vcards that include photographs as included JPEG in the vcard itself. They approach 100 kB in size and make a mess of storage if there are too many of them added to emails by forks who don't know or don't care.

I'd hate to think of the mess that would occur is an included JPEG were treated as unicode text.
