Xcode style deployment: debug-symbols?

When I build my product with style "deployment" it seems
debug-symbols is still "on":
Building target xyz with build style Deployment (optimization:level size, debug-symbols:on)
I cannot find an actual setting with the Project Inspector where
debug-symbols is still on. Is this Xcode build message wrong?
