That is not strictly true. You can get to the resource fork from any Unix-y app. To get to the resource fork of the file "foo", simply open "foo/rsrc".

If I were in your shoes, I'd simply pipe the contents of "strings foo/rsrc" through a perl script that grabs the URL.
