This was a bug in the Panther upgrade.

look at the archives for the solution (search terms: missing man pages)

Apologies for the probable naivite of this post, but where the heck are
my basic stdio man pages?

My manpath is set as:

MANPATH=/sw/share/man:/usr/share/man:/usr/X11R6/man

and /usr/man doesn't exist (does it ever on OS X?).

as a result, a simple man query like "man gets" fails. gets.3 doesn't
exist on my machine. Are these man pages not installed on OS X (10.3.2)
by default (or by the developer tools), or am I missing something
obvious?
