needsToDrawRect broken?

I modified my code to use needsToDrawRect and it doesn't seem to work.
In some cases I would get returned NO when it should have returned YES.
I verified that the correct rect was returned using
getRectsBeingDrawn.
The code I used was very simple, I don't think I made a mistake, has
anyone else seen problems with this?
