CHUD question

Hi,

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum but I thought I'd ask. I noticed that (1) installing the CHUD tools, and (2) checking the "Nap" box in the hardware preferences, causes my dual 1GHz MD to run at about 34 C -- compared to around 57 C when the "Nap" box is unchecked. Does anyone know what's going on? I was unable to find any documentation regarding CHUD's hardware preferences on Apple's web site.

Checking the "Nap" box doesn't seem to cause any degradation in performance. But why the enormous drop in temperature (and it was rather quick too, almost immediate). Is something messing with the temperature sensing, or do the processors really run cooler? I guess I want to know if it is safe to continue to operate this way for improved processor reliability [I've had the processor module of two dual MDD (a 1GHz and a 1.25 GHz) fail within the first year].

Thanks for any tips.
