Why? If you don't have admin privileges just drop the app into a private application folder.

Agreed. But that's potentially not what the user wants to do.

Maybe with installers that are not Packages. When it comes to .pkg, it's really easy to know.
Umm, really easy for the average user to know? How, pray tell? And if your answer involves the command-line, I'll have to disagree with the "really easy" part.
