That's what I'd read, and why I was startled by the compiler warning.
but:

is stupidly followed.
You're probably right. Thanks for your advice. I've decided to pass
"sender" as Clark suggested, which has some of the advantages of your
dictionary suggestion whilst keeping the code simple. (Simple code for
a simple coder, you see.)
