Yes, that makes sense. I interpreted hung as the program had to be killed,
not as it was temporarily unresponsive.

A lot of times when my desktop goes to sleep and I have a volume from it
mounted on my laptop the laptop does a really good interpretation of having
crashed while file sharing is timing out and deciding that the volume is
really not coming back. It is unfortunate that this isn't handled a bit more
gracefully.
