key value observing stops

For some reason my key value observing stops after successive calls. I
have a text view that calls setValue: on a dependent object every time
the text is changed. This dependent object has an observer observing
changes to it, and does so for the first couple of inputs, but then
just flat out stops doing so. Does anyone know what may be going on?
