ABPeoplePickerView

I've have include the ABPeoplePickerView in the latest version of my software, but the search field in the view doesn't behave as expected even though when I test the interface it does. During actually execution searching only occurs when the user selects the magnifying glass.

I don't see anything in the class that allows me to control this behavior. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?
