Not able to debug in XCode and ProjectBuilder

Hi All,
I am using the latest version of Project Builder and XCode on mac OS 10.3.2.
The problem is i am not able to debug the code if i attach an application to the executable option in ProjectBuilder and XCode.
Both of them give me an error saying "Debugging of <application name> ended normally." Is there any setting to be done ?
Also I also wanted to know how to change the compiler version in ProjectBuilder & XCode.
