It was one of your colleagues during the last WWDC saying something like "design for performance"! I think it was the Safari talk. I fully support this attitude, even if you are writing another TicTacToe

In the past I often observed, that code written with optimization in mind (when performance is a constant requirement from day one) is more robust, and expresses the intention better. It is also often (believe it or not) simpler - possibly because in this case folks tend to think before code...
