An IM as an event... is it possible?

Hi.

I'm trying to build an app w/ the Cocoa framework, it would be ideal if i could signal/send messages into some of my classes when an IM (e.g., IChat) pops up. Is this possible? can I pass context/the text of the IM? My apologies if this is either obvious or outside the scope of this listserv, I'm new to cocoa, and though i scoured the developer docs, nothing jumped up at me.

thanks in advance.
