Ok, now I think I really have it. I think my problems are all traceable
to a nib problem: I hadn't set the files owner to be an
NSWindowController and hadn't connected the file owner's window outlet
to my secondary window.
I'm cc'ing this to the list so that it may benefit someone else in the
future.
