NSLevelIndicator is not available in 10.3. If 10.3 is your platform, then
you're out of luck.
QuickTime 7 has some new functions that make this kinda easy. See the
documentation:

You may also want to look at the old way of doing things. the sndEqualizer
sample code at the QuickTime Reference Library page is a good place to start
with the basic concepts.
