Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. I had previously tried to prefetch attributes, but only for kMDItemPath, which I had not realised was special.

So, next question: what can I use as a unique identifier other than kMDItemPath? Is there any reason Apple would be against making kMDItemID public and also making kMDVolumeID available? :)
