For future reference, one way of getting unicode into Applescript is
to pass the unicode section as a string contained in an
NSAppleEventDescriptor into an Applescript handler.
This wrapper makes that very easy:

The solution was pretty ugly so I recoded my app to play a playlist
by its ID instead of name. A lot less prone to error.
Thanks for the help.

tell application "iTunes"

NOTE: "??????" is suppose to be the special Unicode characters
But it can never be, because a literal string in AppleScript is
MacRoman
only. There ways of creating a Unicode string in AppleScript, but
they are
ugly, and that's now how you do it. See my book for more (or just
write me
offline). m.
