Note that the Carbon Pasteboard and Translation Services have also had UTI support since their inception in Panther. Any of these APIs (including Navigation Serivces) should be completely usable from a Cocoa app if you require a workaround solution. But, please write bugs against the relevant AppKit technologies to make sure the team knows how much you would like to see UTI based Cocoa APIs.
