iTunes private framework

Does a private framework for interfacing with iTunes exist ? Kind of like the InstantMessage framework allows interface with iChat, and the Message framework with Mail.
I want to develop a little app that needs control over iTunes (namely pausing to kill sound when needed). I could do it with an AppleScript, but I was hoping there was a Cocoa/Obj-C only way to do this.

Thanks

charles
