Well I'm not Scott so I can't give you a full explanation but for a
start you can't bind anything to MyController in IB since it's not the
"File's owner".
If you want to set MyController to File's Owner you have to make it an
subclass of NSWindowController first. So I guess it's a design issue
and also a way to simplify the demo.
