Customizing the "Not Applicable" marker in a tableview

  • Subject: Customizing the "Not Applicable" marker in a tableview

Greetings,

I have a Core Data application that uses inheritance of entities. I have an entity that contains some common attributes, and then a number of other entities that add their own attributes.

I want to have an uber tableview that contains all of the different kinds of entities (mainly for overview / debugging). By turning off the "Raises for not applicable keys", I can have all of the different objects displayed in the tableview.

The problem I'm having is when there is an attribute that lives in one entity but not in the other. I get a "Not Applicable" in the cell, but I'd rather just show an empty cell. These columns have number formatters, and IB wants an integer value for the placeholder, so an empty string is not allowed.

I came across setDefaultPlaceholder:forMarker:withBindg:, but I'm not sure what class I should direct that to (plus there's not a huge amount of stuff on the web that refers to that)

Is there a way to set the Not Applicable marker in the tableview, or do I need to use setPlaceholderString: on all of the table cells involved?

Thanks in advance,
