And to follow up on my own reply, I don't mean to say that all Cocoa developers needs to get down to the metal and understand all the nitty-gritty details of how this works at the lowest level. Cocoa is nice in that way, it lets you focus on object relationships and high level designs to a large extent. I think that you can take that approach also to learning about Cocoa memory management. Think about it more in terms of object ownership than anything else.
