I had Xcode doc window open when I installed the documentation update and it came up with a little sheet saying the the documentation layout had changed, I clicked Ok and it updated itself nicely without having to exit Xcode.
mhmh. I think I estimated the complexity pretty much as it is...what disappointed me was that I had to wait until someone packaged all those files into one rather big .dmg, and I (at least it seems like that) will be constantly wondering whether my local docs are in sync with the online ones. I imagine Apple will post updates only in bigger chunks - so I'm back to reading online docs again :-(
The good news is that there will be downloadable DMGs for each web push that we do. So when the web content gets updated, you can keep your local copy in sync. TechNotes and Sample Code may be updated outside of that schedule (different departments and different publishing means) but I don't believe those are part of the DMGs anyways. You can keep up to date on those via RSS feeds.
Documents aren't updated on the web on an individual basis. Changes are made to documents (bug fixes, updates, and new documents are written) and then they're all pushed out to the web at the same time. Each time that's done, a new DMG will be created automatically. Pushes are done roughly every month (it might be closer to six weeks) on average.
So no worries about being out of sync with the online docs! :-) |
