This is very frustrating - obviously it is possible, because
Preview can zoom in on a PDF without losing sharpness at all. There
must be some kind of limiter in the NSImage class!
I would take your question to the quartz-dev list. Before you do
that, however, search the archives of that list. I believe this
question has been asked (and answered) there before, though I can't
remember what the resolution was.
