If I follow exactly the instructions for the QTKitPlayer given in the
QTKitProgrammingGuide document, I get an app that doesn't play movies. I
can't figure out if the document steps are incorrect, my installation is
incorrect, or I'm missing something obvious.

The first weirdness occurs at step 7 on page 24. When I click on the
"File..." attribute in IB for the QTMovieView, the control bar of the
QTMovieView disappears, leaving just a black window. Running the result of
this does nothing. Selecting "Open..." from the menu and choosing a .mov
file changes the title on the QTMovieView window, but leaves the window
black.

Even if I skip step 7, the app behaves the same at runtime, even though I do
have a control bar. It does not seem to load the movie file, though the
window title changes. Clicking on the play triangle in the control bar does
nothing, and I can't move the slider from the start point.

I've already reinstalled the developer tools once, but that didn't help. I'm
on a dual G5 2GHz PowerMac, 10.4.

The symptoms you describe would indicate that you did not add the QTKit framework to your project; is that perhaps the case?
