Manually Editing Preferences

  • Subject: Manually Editing Preferences

I am attempting to manually edit the preferences file in Safari or Firefox such that the downloads directory is changed. Basically, my application launches a web browser, and I want the downloads directory to be automatically set to the downloads directory for the current project.

I am able to edit the preferences file, but after launching the web browser, the change has gone unnoticed. The only way, it seems, to change the preference is to edit it from within the browser itself. I also tried editing the prefs.js file for Firefox, but the downloads directory is encrypted or something. Simply typing in the desired directory yields no results.

I am out of ideas. Help!

David
