Nothing I've read has suggested even how to approach it...

The other application in which you're embedded has to support it. Otherwise, there's not really a way to do it, besides using APE or so to patch the other app (which is dangerous and fragile), like the Keynote LinkBack plugins do.


That said, if another app supports it, they probably support LinkBack (http://www.linkbackproject.org/).

Other solutions on the low-tech end of the scale would be to support auto-exporting a snapshot of your document in some suitable and well-supported file format (Word, RTF, PICT, PDF...) and having the other app reference it (IIRC PageMaker lets you reference a Word document, meaning when it changes it will automatically be re-imported next time you open the PM document -- I'd guess QX also supports a similar feature).
