I don't know if this was the right way, but here's what I did:

1 Drop a comboboxcell on the target column in IB 2 Override NSTableColumn's - (id)dataCellForRow:(int)row to use a textfield for the columns not using the combobox. While you're in there you can tweak the configuration of the CB.
