As for getting the current track name and audio control,
AppleScript is the (only?) way to go. For reading the library you can
load the XML "iTunes Library" file iTunes provides for third parties.
This is for *reading only* ... you cannot modify the library by
modifying this file.

Hello. I hope that this is the appropriate group for this
question. If not, could someone please point me to the right
group? There doesn't seem to be an iTunes related SDK group, so I
thought to post here.
I need to control iTunes, though I have not received a precise
specification request yet. I know that I'll have to query the
library database, find out which track is playing, be notified for
library/playlist/track changes, and other similar requests (sorry
to be so vague). I thought it preferable to use Apple Events for
speed, and while I would guess that this is possible, I have not
found any Apple documentation on how to do so. Could anyone point
me towards some documentation on this? I'd rather not rely on
Applescript if I could avoid it, so as to minimize response times.
Apple events would seem to be preferable, at least prima facie.
thanks,
