Also note that TIFF doesn't necessarily mean uncompressed, either.
TIFF would often compress images using LZW, which turned out to be
legally encumbered. Getting away from LZW was one of the reasons for
PNG in the first place, IIRC. Of course, using a non-LZW-compressed
(or simply not compressed) TIFF gets around the patent issue, too.
