This does not make it simple...

The list guidelines discourage reformulation of the memory management rules (<http://lists.apple.com/archives/cocoa-dev/2006/May/ msg00001.html>).

These issues are covered fully and accurately in the documentation (for example <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/ Conceptual/MemoryMgmt/index.html>), and in other references referred to from links given in the list guidelines.
