Formatting display patterns

I have a view that renders a typical "1 out of 1000" message using bindings and a display pattern of "%{value1}@ out of %{value2}@". Is there a built in formatting syntax that can modify the output or do I need to write a value transformer to apply to the text in order to insert thousands separators to make the numbers easier to read. It sounds like NSValueTransformer may be the only way to go but I thought I'd ask first.
