I ditched the Interface Builder prefs plist in ~/Library/
Preferences and that had no effect. Still have the issue.
However, if I log in to the same machine as a different user, then
the problem goes away.
The problem is with any nib, including new nibs I create as a test.
I cannot find any IB related stuff in my ~/Library of the affected
account except the preferences. The Caches dir for IB is empty.
I ditched the ~/Library/Caches/Iinterface Builder directory, which
was empty with 0 items, and the problem went away.
That seems to have been unrelated. As I did NOT QUIT IB, and when I
went back to it it was no longer working and deleting the Caches
Interface Builder directory did not fix it.
HOWEVER, I can sort of reproduce the problem now on my 10.4.8 G5. (I
have no haxies installed that I know of -- I run a pretty bog stock
machine). My 10.4.6/7 intel mini does not have the problem even
when following the steps I will outline, but I am now updating it to
10.4.8 to test.
On my 10.4.8 G5, if I run Terminal.app, then when I run Interface
Builder, I cannot control-drag any connections -- the interface
elements do not highlight and let me complete the control-drag,
though I do get the control-drag conection line coming out of the
source etc. Just the target interface elements do not highlight.
If I quit Terminal, it works again.
I did this several times. However, when I went to do it while
writing this, it did not happen. However, once I quit SKYPE then I
could control-drag again. So some sort of collateral damage is
happening between running apps. Maybe the window server gets confused?
Weird.
Doubly weird
