Alan:
Memory management related topics are frequently improperly
explained on this list, which is exactly why the list guidelines
(which were just posted again recently) say this:
Memory management
-----------------
Developers are strongly discouraged from attempting to reformulate
Cocoa's memory management rules in posts to the list. Almost
invariably, someone makes a subtle or not-so-subtle mistake which
then results in confusion and additional messages to resolve the
issue. Simply post links to the relevant documentation, such as:
MemoryMgmt/Tasks/MemoryManagementRules.html>
Links to other reviewed articles that discuss memory management are
given in <http://www.alastairs-place.net/cocoa/faq.txt>
If you ignore these guidelines (which, by extension, means you're
ignoring list etiquette), you're going to get a pretty annoyed
response from others, since they have to once again correct a post
containing *very* common misinformation that could be avoided by
paying attention to those "list guidelines" posts.
Reading and obeying the guidelines is the easy part. The hard part
is not taking it personally.

Alright! So I was wrong! But you guys have no need to blow up about
it. Simply correct me, state that my info wasn't 100% accurate, and
move on.
When I get such outraged and upset replies to my posts I feel less and
less like doing anymore posting.
Peace, Alan
