It's New and Improved!
Seriously, though we have now released a new version of the ODBCKit.
This version introduces some new, and certainly has some improved.
Let's start with the new.
With this release, there is now an embeddable version of the
framework, as well as new asynchronous methods to be used within the
framework. There is also a new example project, that does ugly things
using the framework to do things the way most ODBC developers are
used to doing them in Windows. The State List Administration project
is an example of not leveraging the power of Cocoa. In the future, we
will build a 'bindings' version that should better demonstrate how to
leverage the power of Cocoa. Last on the new list is a handy little
toy: there is a new Automator action for running SQL Queries against
ODBC data sources.
On the improved side, there have been a slew of bugs squished. Also in
the improved category is performance. Shark is a wonderful tool if
you are a developer, use it. I expect many more improvements to come
in optimizing the framework as the original example program, the
Query Tool becomes a full fledged application to make using ODBC more
efficient.
