Actually, I think this could be better settled if someone could
show a case of overlapping views becoming a problem having an issue
rather than people quoting documentation other people are misreading.
I have an application that has to take a set of overlapping custom
views (some opaque some not) and convert them into nested views in
order to ensure correct display ... views would randomly disappear
because overlapping views behind it would draw over it ... despite
the correct ordering in the nib. I noticed drawing issues on 10.4.3
and 10.3.9 but have not retested without the fix-up code since 10.4.3
(maybe Apple has fixed more of the drawing issues in recent Mac OS X
builds).
If I had the time to spend I could cut down the application into a
form that could be used to show the issues (not an application I can
just distribute)... but I really don't care to take the time.
At one session at WWDC06 they alluded to these type of issues... but
that is all I can say about that at this time.
