Unwanted Tasks

Hi,
sometimes, and without any apparent reason, my disk runs like crazy.
I launch Terminal, type "top" and I see the following tasks running.

find (76%)
locate.big
locate.cod
sort

After few minutes everything stops.
What's that? Should I worry about that?
