QTMovie isPlaying

I know that you can determine if a QTMovie is playing by reading its rate, but I have a problem with this method.

If I setTime on the video, its rate gets set to 0 while it jumps.

Really, what I'm trying to do is use CoreVideo to display the QTMovie's video - and I've got that all working, and I'm using CoreImage effects to fade it and such...

the problem lies here : when the movie isn't playing, I want the GL view to be black, NOT stay at the last played frame of video, as CIVideoDemoGL (which I'm basing everything off of) does.

Any suggestions?
