I agree that this is a bug, the documentation on the issue of unidirectional relationships doesn't spell out exactly what kinds of problems you will get and you do seem to be maintaining a consistent object graph.

I have applications that use uni-directional relationships without
issue because it makes more sense in the specific situation. and I
manage the relationship on either end manually to ensure consistency.
In this case, you are trying to simulate a bi-directional relationship
with two uni-directional relationships -- this seems like a poor
design choice which is leading to the bug.

However, I don't think this is a "dramatic" or "huge", or any other
superlatives, kind of bug.
