I would like to control the brightness of my monitor from within my application.
Is there a way of doing this?
There seems to be a Linux version at http:// ddccontrol.sourceforge.net/ that seems to do what I want but I can not get it to work on my Mac?

Searching for kIODisplayBrightnessKey ought to get you started on controlling Apple LCDs. As far as I know, though, there's no way to control brightness on other types of external displays; the interface that DDCControl uses isn't available under OS X. (File a bug?)
