Color well does not always update

I have a color well in a preference panel. Sometimes when the color panel is brought up, changing colors has no effect on the color well. I need to close the panel then open it again for changes to start taking effect. I'm not sure how I could be screwing this up since basically I have no code that interacts with the color panel itself. Has anyone else had this problem?
